Glass Staircase Design Development

Design Concepts have been commissioned by our long term collaborator Artisan to develop the design of a bespoke glass staircase with integral balustrades.

Due to the complexity of the design we are in the process of developing 3D models of the stair to assist in the co-ordination of multiple elements interfacing with one another.

The design has comprised of triple laminated glass treads and risers with bespoke countersunk glass fittings and brackets to allow restraint to 20mm thick laser cut steel stringers and support posts.

The scheme requires a 35mm triple laminated structural walk-on glass landing at first floor level linking the two wings of the building. 39mm structural glass fins below the walkway support the loadings on the walk-on glass, which in turn are restrained to the timber glulam beams with specialist designed bracketry.

17.5mm thick laminated glass balustrades are also supported onto the treads with additional bespoke brackets and glass fittings. The design has been developed in conjunction with our Structural Engineering partner JCC Facades along with Artisan and will be fabricated and delivered to site for installation in the coming weeks.
